We all know someone who has (and we all have) experienced loss – loss of a pet, a dream, an ability, a relationship, a job, a loved one. Grief is the response of our total being to each and all losses. Loss and grief are both universal, we all experience them, and unique, we experience and express them in a variety of ways as unique children of God. So, what is grief? Is it predictable, orderly? Is it okay to cry, to question, to doubt? What about my feelings of sadness, hurt, relief, resentment, anger, joy – are these normal? How can I find comfort? How can I offer comfort to another? What is helpful, not helpful? In this workshop, we will examine these questions as we explore loss and grief – definitions, myths, responses, challenges, needs, and resources. In addition to the Bible, handouts, and our experiences, we will be using Alan Wolfelt’s book, Understanding Your Grief – en Essential Touchstones for Finding Hope and Healing Your Heart. The workshop is free and open to any who are seeking guidance for finding comfort for themselves or for how to offer comfort to others. Our facilitator will be retired Pastor and Hospice Chaplain, Jim Clifford. For more information, please contact Fairhope Christian Church, 928-8495, during office hours, M-F, 10 am – 2 pm.
