Arbor Week was first established in Alabama in 1887 by Gov. Thomas Seay, a veteran of the Battle of Fort Blakeley in 1865. In honor of Arbor Week, we invite you to the park for a special 45-minute “Tree Walk and Talk” by registered forester and 4-H instructor Dean Trawick. At 8:15 AM*, we'll hike the park's new “Champion Tree Trail” and learn about the incredible diversity of tree species in the park, as well as get a chance to view two current State Champion trees. State Champions are the largest trees of their particular species in the state. Throughout the day, all guests to the park are encouraged to take free tree seedlings provided through a partnership with the Alabama Forestry Commission. The tour is complimentary with regular park admission of $4 for adults/$3 for kids ages 6-12.
