Sometimes historic preservation involves celebrating places, people, and events. This month we are celebrating historic places throughout Baldwin County by touring historic sites. Not only are these sites worthy of preserving, but the stories behind them are, as well. Everywhere we turn, there is more to discover.
1:00 p.m. - Meet at the Fairhope Colony Cemetery in Fairhope - Donnie Barrett, Local Historian is the Tour Guide. The Cemetery is owned and operated by the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation. Fairhope was founded in 1894 by a group of northern settlers with a "fair hope" of success towards creating a community of free speech, equality, and cooperative individualism. Many of the founders are at rest I the Fairhope Colony Cemetery.
