Join us Thursday, August 11, 2022 for “Data That Drives Smart Policy Decisions” featuring Dr. Tom Shaw. Lunch Provided to those that pre-register to attend in-person by the deadline (which should be Noon, Mon August 8th). Doors will open and lunch will be available starting at 11AM; the program and live stream will start promptly at 11:30AM. Dr. Thomas Shaw is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice, Director of the USA Polling Group at the University of South Alabama, and Graduate Coordinator for the Master of Public Administration Program. He is originally a native of Gulfport, Mississippi and attained his doctorate in Political Science in 1998 from the University of New Orleans. He worked briefly for the National Opinion Research Center in Chicago before joining the Institute for Policy Research (IPR) at the University of Cincinnati in 2000. While at the IPR, Thomas attained the rank of Senior Research Associate and was the Associate Director of the Greater Cincinnati Survey. In 2005, Thomas accepted a position as Assistant Professor at the University of South Alabama. In 2010, he joined the USA Polling Group as a Co-Director. In 2011, he received tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor and then in 2013, he took over as sole Director of the USA Polling Group. In 2018, he took over the leadership of the Master of Public Administration program when he became the graduate coordinator. Thomas has over 20 years of experience in survey research and has led over 50 survey research projects through the USA Polling Group. Thomas continues to teach a mix of upper and lower-level undergraduate political science courses as well as graduate level courses in the department’s Master of Public Administration program. This program is FREE and open to all. Residents of Mobile and Baldwin counties are encouraged to attend. The program will stream live on YouTube and Facebook on Thursday, August 11th at 11:30am. The presentation will be followed by a live question & answer opportunity. Coastal Conversations is a program of Coastal Alabama Partnership and is a platform for citizens to engage with experts who will provide leading edge information and share big ideas.
