Description
Fairhope’s Mardi Gras season kicks off on Saturday, February 18, with not one but two parades.
First, grab a leash for the Mystic Mutts of Revelry, Fairhope’s only walking parade. Now in its 14th year, this parade is the main annual fundraising activity for Fairhope’s no-kill animal shelter, The Haven, and features, what else? Dogs!
“This is a fun and popular event that has raised around $140,000 for The Haven since its inception, said spokesperson Joline Beedy. “Our monthly vet and medical care costs average between $6,000 and $8,000, so this is an important fundraising event. But we also call it a ‘friend-raising’ event because we are reaching out to the community with information about the wonderful pets we have available for adoption.”
Since it opened its doors in 2000, The Haven has helped 6,500 dogs and cats find new homes. “Funds from this event allow us to continue saving lives,” Beedy said. To learn more and to register for the parade, visit www.havenforanimals.org. Registration will also be available the day of the parade at the park, starting at 10:30.
