Description
The Broken Hearts, a tribute band dedicated to the legendary musician Tom Petty, will be performing live at OWA Theater on June 29 at 7pm. The band was formed as a heartfelt tribute to Tom Petty following his passing in October 2017 by Charlie Souza, a former bandmate of Tom Petty from both Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Mudcrutch, along with Shawn Scheller, a talented singer/songwriter from Save The Radio!.
Initially, the formation of The Broken Hearts was intended to be a temporary project, but due to the overwhelming demand and continuous requests to perform at events honoring Tom Petty, the group of musicians decided to embark on an official touring tribute project in 2018. Their goal is to pay respect and honor to the life and music of the late Thomas Earl Petty, who left an indelible mark on the music industry.
The current lineup of The Broken Hearts consists of highly skilled musicians who beautifully recreate the sound and spirit of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Mateo Olivo takes on the role of Mike Campbell, delivering captivating lead guitar performances. Julian Simonelli pays homage to Howie Epstein, playing the bass guitar with precision and passion. Aidan Cain channels the energy of Benmont Tench, skillfully playing the piano, organ, and keyboards. Scott Lockhart emulates the drumming style of Stan Lynch, providing the band with a solid rhythmic foundation. Finally, Shawn Scheller, in addition to his vocal duties, assumes the role of Tom Petty himself, capturing the essence of his voice and guitar playing.
Together, The Broken Hearts create an authentic and immersive concert experience that celebrates the iconic music of Tom Petty. Fans can expect to hear beloved hits like "Free Fallin'," "American Girl," "Learning to Fly," and many more, all performed with dedication, reverence, and the passion that Tom Petty's music deserves.
