Dozens of Alabama high school students recently toured Coastal Alabama Community College’s Division of Nursing and Allied Health on the Bay Minette campus. It was the second annual Health Occupations Exploration Day, an interactive open house where students meet faculty and staff and enjoy hands-on access to classrooms and labs.
Baldwin County, Excel, Jackson and Monroe County high schools were represented, and students visited various departments including Nursing, Dental Assisting, Emergency Medical Services, Medical Assistant, Medical Laboratory, Respiratory Therapy, Surgical Technology and Veterinary Technology.
Coastal Alabama’s annual Health Occupations Exploration Day allows students from all areas and backgrounds to gain exposure to the various health occupation programs that we offer,” said Dr. Tyler Sturdivant, associate dean of nursing. “This day starts the career and academic advising process and empowers high school students to explore, and hopefully choose, a career that positively impacts the workforce shortage of healthcare professionals in Coastal Alabama’s rural and urban footprint.”
