Montgomery, Ala. — Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce President Casey Gay Williams and Director of Governmental Affairs and Workforce Development Christopher Lugo joined chamber leaders from across Alabama in Montgomery for the 2nd Annual Chamber Day at the Capitol, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama and presented by Alabama Power.
The annual advocacy event convened chamber professionals, volunteer leaders, and business partners to engage with state policymakers on legislative priorities, economic trends, and policy issues impacting Alabama’s employers and communities.
Programming included discussions with Senate President Pro Tempore Garlan Gudger, Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter, and House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels, along with updates from business and economic development leaders. Attendees also participated in visits to the Alabama State House to meet directly with legislators.
During the event, Alabama Chambers presented the inaugural Alabama Chambers Leadership in Government Award to Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth in recognition of his leadership on economic growth and workforce development.
“Chamber Day at the Capitol provides an important opportunity to advocate directly for the Eastern Shore’s business community,” Williams said. “Maintaining strong relationships with our state leaders is essential to advancing policies that support local employers and workforce development.”
Lugo said the event reinforced the importance of alignment between local workforce needs and state policy decisions.
“Workforce development and economic competitiveness depend on alignment between local needs and state policy,” Lugo said. “Events like this allow chambers to communicate directly with lawmakers about the real-world impacts of their decisions on employers, students, and families.”
Founded in 1937, Alabama Chambers represents nearly 100 chambers of commerce statewide and, in partnership with the Business Council of Alabama, advocates on behalf of more than one million working Alabamians.
