Mobile Film Office Awards the EVA to the Original Oyster House for the Most Festive Creative Project

The Mobile Film Office congratulated the Original Oyster House on Christmas Eve for winning the EVA award for the holiday video “The Christmas Song” the OOH version, sung by Dre Lawson, the dining room manager of the Causeway Original Oyster House. The classic song’s lyrics were rewritten by Cecilia Mace, marketing director of the Original Oyster House Restaurants. The video, also produced by Mace, summarized the 2021 year in review. It was announced over social media with the awards presentation held on Monday, January 16, 2023 at the restaurant.

“The Eva Award is named after Eva Golson, the Mobile Film Office’s first director,” explained Keli Shirazi, Mobile Film Office coordinator. “Eva, who was nicknamed ‘Movie Mama,’ created the Mobile film family, helped procure film incentives and is credited for making Mobile the leading Alabama city for feature and independent films, and reality and television series. After 47 years of service, which included 178 movies, television series, music videos, documentaries and commercials filmed locally, Eva retired last April,” said Shirazi.

The Mobile Film Office, a department of the City of Mobile, is a liaison between the film industry, the government and the community. It facilitates on-location production in the Mobile area by educating, informing, setting standards of professionalism, and serving as a clearinghouse for location production information. The Original Oyster House has become the “must-go-to” place for great fresh Gulf seafood, service and Southern hospitality and for its panoramic waterfront sunsets. A top-spot for hand-shucked and fire-grilled oysters, the Original Oyster House has also become legendary for its homemade gumbo, cheesy grits with blackened shrimp, as well as handcrafted desserts including its famous Peanut Butter Pie. In 2016, the Original Oyster House became the first restaurant in the state of Alabama to recycle oyster shells through the Alabama Coastal Foundation. In December 7 of 2022, an estimated 19.7 million oyster shells have been recovered

from participating Gulf Coast restaurants. In 2018, the Original Oyster House pledged further by being the only local restaurant to “oyster garden” or grow stocker oysters for reef restoration.

The Original Oyster House (OOH) has two locations, Mobile: 3733 Battleship Parkway, on the Causeway and Gulf Shores: 701 Gulf Shores Parkway on the Original Oyster House Boardwalk.
