Daphne, Ala., May 15, 2026 – Bayside Academy freshman Avery Therrell and junior Jack Koch were recognized by the Mobile Optimist Club as the 1A–5A Athletes of the Week for their recent track and field performances at Sectionals. They were recognized at the Optimist Club’s meeting yesterday and were joined by Bayside Academy Track and Field Coach Joe Swagart.
At Sectionals, Avery won the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run, with times of 2:25.35 and 5:35.94 respectively. She also was a member of Bayside’s winning 4x800-meter relay and second-place 4x400-meter relay.
At Sectionals, Jack won the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles, with times of 16.47 seconds and 43.02 seconds. He cleared 5’10” in high jump to place third overall and was a member of Bayside’s eighth-place 4x400-meter relay.
