United Airlines launches nonstop service to Washington D.C. at Mobile Regional Airport

MOBILE, Ala. (June 27, 2024) – Today, the Mobile Airport Authority is excited to celebrate the launch of the United Airlines’ nonstop flights from Mobile Regional Airport (MOB) to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).

This new service, with two flights daily, provides convenient and direct access to our nation’s capital. Travelers from Mobile can now easily connect to more than 70 domestic and international destinations via United’s hub at Dulles International. The convenient flight schedule includes two daily departures from MOB, optimizing travel flexibility.

“Today’s inaugural flight wouldn’t be possible without the collaboration between United, our partners at Mobile Regional Airport and the greater community,” said Mark Weithofer, United’s Managing Director of Domestic Network Planning. “We look forward to connecting the region to our industryleading network via Washington Dulles”.

“This is a pivotal moment for our region,” said Elliot Maisel, Mobile Airport Authority Board Chairman. “United Airlines' nonstop service meets a long-standing demand for direct access to Washington D.C. This crucial link enhances business, government, and leisure connectivity, and shows our commitment to meeting the needs of our community.”

“The launch of this new route underscores our commitment to expanding air service and enhancing connectivity,” says Chris Curry, Mobile Airport Authority President. “With the new terminal set to open in November 2025, located closer to Downtown Mobile and Baldwin County, we are positioning our region for unprecedented growth. This direct link to Washington D.C. is a significant step forward in our vision to provide more convenient and accessible travel options.”

“While many travelers will be excited for the new non-stop flight to our nation’s capital, this new service offers much more. As a hub for northeastern service, Dulles will connect Mobile to many cities currently unavailable to travelers. The new service also provides significantly more access to international flights and destinations, greatly expanding options for Mobilians and all Gulf Coast travels,” said Mayor Sandy Stimpson, City of Mobile.

“The addition of direct service to Washington D.C. further positions Mobile as a hub for growth,” said Mobile Chamber President and CEO Bradley Byrne. “These flights make it easy for you to stop at Dulles and then get to just about anywhere in Europe, a major selling point as we attract European aerospace companies to Mobile.”

“On behalf of Visit Mobile, we express our excitement and appreciation to United Airlines for adding a transformative, direct flight to Washington Dulles International. The twice-daily flights will significantly help connection and tourism with business, leisure and bleisure travelers. We look forward to our expanded partnership with United Airlines and commend the Mobile Airport Authority for their continued leadership in adding direct flights to our destination,” said David Clark, Visit Mobile President & CEO.

"This new United Airlines route brings important business connectivity to the Mobile region,” said Steven Franklin, Senior Director of Plant Production Support for Airbus' U.S. Manufacturing Facility. "We are thrilled to experience the additional efficiency and capacity this route will bring to our community."
