MOBILE, Ala. (July 10, 2024) – The Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the acquisition of the property located at Michigan Avenue and Interstate 10, previously owned by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Mobile Housing Board (MHB). The MAA will own 272 acres, including what is known as Thomas James Place and R.V. Taylor Plaza.

This acquisition represents a significant milestone for both MAA and the City of Mobile. MAA will now commission a master plan to determine the best use of this property. This property will well-serve the MAA’s mission and help fund its operations well into the future.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are pleased and excited to have closed this transaction,” said Mobile Airport Authority Chairman Elliot Maisel. “We owe a debt of gratitude to Michael Pierce, Executive Director MHB; Carlos Gant, Chairman; Mayor Stimpson and the City Council for their support. We would also like to thank HUD for selling us this property.”
