Secret Meals for Hungry Children Launches “Strike Out Hunger” Event to Support Local Kids

FOLEY, Ala. – Secret Meals for Hungry Children, a program founded by Alabama Credit Union, will host a new community event, Strike Out Hunger, on Saturday, Aug. 23 at Gulf Bowl in Foley. This family-friendly event aims to raise funds to provide weekend food packs to children facing food insecurity across South Alabama and Northwest Florida.

The event will also feature an online silent auction, allowing participants to bid on high-quality items from the comfort of home. All proceeds go directly toward purchasing food packs for children in need.

The Secret Meals program began in 2008 with just 18 children. Today, it serves more than 4,300 children across Alabama during the 2023–2024 school year. Locally supported schools include:

  • Swift Elementary

  • Florence Howard Elementary

  • St. Elmo Elementary

  • J. Larry Newton School

  • Warrington Elementary

  • Orange Beach Elementary

  • Pearl Haskew Elementary

  • Florence B. Mathis Elementary

  • Griggs Elementary

  • Meadow Lake Elementary

  • Tanner Williams Elementary

  • Mary B. Austin Elementary

  • Denton Elementary
