St. Michael Catholic High School Celebrates Approval of New Traffic Signal at Highway 104 and St. M

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — St. Michael Catholic High School is expressing its sincere gratitude to the Baldwin County Commission and the Alabama Department of Transportation following the approval for the installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 104 and St. Michael Way.

The signal, expected to be operational by fall 2026, represents a major investment in the safety of St. Michael students, families, faculty, staff, and the broader Baldwin County community.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Baldwin County Commission and the Alabama Department of Transportation for prioritizing the safety of our students and families,” said Dr. Andrea Williamson, Principal of St. Michael Catholic High School. “This traffic signal is a meaningful investment in our community and truly an answer to prayers. It will make a lasting difference for the students, families, and visitors who travel to our campus each day.”

Representing St. Michael at the Baldwin County Commission meeting was Michael Druhan, President of the St. Michael Advisory Council, who thanked Chairman Ball, Vice-Chairman Gruber, Commissioner McKenzie, and Commissioner Underwood for their leadership and responsiveness in addressing the growing safety needs surrounding the school campus.

St. Michael Catholic High School currently serves 348 students from across Baldwin County and continues to experience growth in both enrollment and campus development. In Fall 2024, the school opened its on-campus stadium and is actively engaged in a capital campaign to expand additional athletic facilities.

“The timing of this project—and having this traffic signal in place by the fall—cannot be overstated,” Druhan said. “As our campus continues to develop, this traffic signal is a vital piece of infrastructure that ensures the safety of our students, families, and visitors.”

Dr. Williamson added that the project will bring meaningful peace of mind to families across the St. Michael community.

“As a school community, we pray daily for the safety of our students,” Williamson said. “Because of the leadership and support shown by the Baldwin County Commission, parents can rest easier knowing their children will have a safer route to and from school.”

School leaders emphasized that the new signal will not only benefit St. Michael families, but also improve traffic flow and safety for the surrounding community and the thousands of visitors who attend events on campus each year.

St. Michael Catholic High School extends its heartfelt thanks to all those involved in making this important safety improvement a reality.
