Thomas Hospital Auxiliary awards health career scholarship to area student

FAIRHOPE, AL -- The Thomas Hospital Auxiliary is pleased to award a $3,000 health career scholarship to Ayanna Carvin, who works as an OB tech in the Thomas Hospital Birth Center.

This fall, she will be attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) to become a physician assistant. She also earned her bachelor’s degree from UAB in kinesiology.

Since 1999, the Auxiliary has awarded 101 scholarships valued at more than $215,000.

Recipients are chosen based on their academic excellence, financial need, extra-curricular activities, and dedication to their goals. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be Baldwin County residents, enrolled full time at an accredited college or university as juniors or seniors pursuing a bachelor’s degree or in a post-graduate program, and accepted into a healthcare program. Thomas Hospital Auxiliary Health Career Scholarship Committee Chair Bill Scott interviewed and selected this year’s recipient.

The scholarships are funded by memorial donations and several fundraisers, including the Auxiliary’s holiday silent art auction and sale of used books and puzzles, which are accepted in the Thomas Hospital Auxiliary office and sold in the hospital lobby.
